Sunday, June 16th is the day to celebrate this year’s Father’s Day. The idea that fathers, and not just mothers, should have their day came from Sonora Smart Dodd back in 1909. Sonora, whose mother died when she was little and was raised along with her brothers by her father, has proposed Father’s Day in honor of hers and all the other fathers. To show her gratitude for all the love, care and attention, she decided it to be in June, a month in which her was born. Just one year after its proposal, on third Sunday of the month of June, the first Father’s Day was celebrated. Holiday soon became popular throughout the whole U.S. and later around the world. On this day, aside from various fathers day gifts, fathers are gifted with red roses, a floral symbol of Father’s Day.
Thus, this year join millions of children around the world, surprise your dad and show love and appreciation you have for him with a hand-made greeting card or some other appropriate fathers day gift. If your dad likes music, awe him with concert tickets or even better, make it a karaoke night. You can take turns and make it a memorable family evening. You can also browse online for fathers day gift ideas and maybe get him a personalized t-shirt or a cup with a picture of the two of you and ‘Best Dad In The World’ caption. Or you can make a poster with the same or similar sign, which you can hang on a prominent place in the house and do not forget to pamper him with extra attention, hugs and kisses all day long. For example, bring him newspapers and breakfast in bed, rent his favorite movie or watch together some old family movies. In addition, you can overtake some of his everyday chores such as walk the dog, wash the car, bring out the trash or mow the grass.
You’ll definitely cheer him up, and maybe even get a teary eye with a scrapbook of his life. Get some of his childhood pictures from your grandparents and include photos from your birthdays, school plays, family vacations etc. But, as the old saying goes ‘Ways to man’s heart is through his stomach’, why not go with a gourmet surprise for this Father’s Day. You can make him a delicious prosciutto pizza with cherry tomatoes, mozzarella and fresh basil leaves. You’ll sure make your dad feel as the best dad in the world (not that he isn’t this every day) with this fathers day present.
